Maryanne Burns - Weight Watchers
My name is Maryanne Burns. I recently [winter 2012] started attending ZumbaFunFit classes. I must say, to my surprise, I am enjoying it immensely. It truly is a fun way to exercise.
I am the Weight Watchers Leader at the Carleton Place and Almonte meetings. Since most of us exercise in order to lose and maintain weight loss, Louise has asked me to give you a brief synopsis of my weight loss journey.
I joined Weight Watchers in February of 2006, with my weight having reached an all-time high. I have struggled with my weight my entire life; at the age of 6, my family doctor had already labelled me "obese", and I continued the roller coaster ride of weight loss only to regain that same weight over and over until that life changing day in February 2006. Upon registering with Weight Watchers, I was given the healthy BMI range for my height and discovered that I would have to lose a minimum of 120 lbs. in order to reach my optimal healthy weight range. Part of me wanted to say, "forget it—it's hopeless" but I decided to start my weight loss journey anyway. I followed the program the best I could, figure out how to make the program fit into my lifestyle, and after 14 short months, I lost a total of 125 lbs. As of May 2012 it will be 5 years that I have been able to maintain my desired goal weight.
Much of my success is not only due to healthy eating, but also exercise. It is important to find a type exercise that you enjoy, so you will keep doing it. I joined Louise's Zumba class because it exercises all muscles groups in one session. I really find it a great workout and the one hour class flies by. It is a great addition to my walking regime.
I will be more than willing to help you with your weight loss aspirations. Come talk to me at Monday nights class.

Zumba Shop in Canada
You can now get Zumba gear direct form the Canadian distributor of Zumba stuff and avoid the hassles of customs etc. We will still be bringing in on occasion some items to support Lanark County Interval House.
The site is here.
Beginner Sessions - Fall 2012 & Winter 2013
An easy introduction for new participants. This is aimed at teaching basic steps so you are comfortable in regular classes. We take a minute or so to explain foot work and arm work and the coordination. You do not have to take a beginner class - it is to help those who would like a gentle introduction before "graduating" to our regular classes.
Zumba Regular Intensity
The regular intensity class contains a variety of intensities: low, medium and high throughout the class. Go at your own pace depending on your abilities!
Zumba Toning

Saturday morning classes incorporate toning moves ( body sculpting). There will be several toning songs about half-way through the play list. Please bring your own 1-1/2 to 2 pound (up to 1 Kg) hand held weights. The weights are optional since the moves are doable without. We also sell the offficial Zumba toning sticks that have the sand inside to make noise. Purchase of the Zumba toning sticks also helps Lanark County Interval House.
Check out the toning video.
Zumba Gold

Gold is geared to lower intensity levels suitable for beginners and adults wanting low impact.
Scarves & Tops & Pants
Belly dance scarves and wrist bands (those with the coins on) are being ordered and sold as fast as we can get them in!
Zumba tops are also available. Some cargo pants also available or you can place an order. To get an idea of what the Zumba wear look like see here.
This is a fund raiser for Interval House.
Class Check-In
Our computer and scanner check-in process is now running smoothly after our inauguration at the beginning of January. Now the checkin is faster by not having to find the paper card in the box (which we sometimes forget to bring). This has allowed Louise to get a better understanding of the numbers attending the various class types and locations for future planning purposes. We thank you for your patience while we got this going.
The phase in process is as follows:
1. As the punch cards (8 classes) get used up we give out a laminated identification card with a barcode on the back when a new package is bought.
2. New participant special cards are now issued with the barcode as well so that everyone is able to use the scan-in process.
3. Pre-registration sessions such as at Fergusons Falls and Friday morning sessions will be added in future.
4. We can now accomodate our regular members "paying for" another person to attend by using one of their bought classes. But it does still mean that the other person has to be in our database for this to work. (Filling in the waiver will ensure that the person is in the database).
We welcome suggestions (praise mostly of course!) for improvement.
Party Hearty,
Tom
